FRANCE TO WELCOME ELITE FLAG FOOTBALL NATIONAL TEAMS FROM ACROSS THE CONTINENT TO EURO FLAG 2025

France will host EURO FLAG 2025 - the IFAF European Flag Football Championships – from September 25 to 27 at the Val-de-Marne Interdepartmental Sports Park in Choisy-le-Roi, Val-de-Marne, in the southeast suburbs of Paris.

EURO FLAG 2025 will bring together the continent’s elite men’s and women’s flag football national teams to compete for the coveted European crown.

Great Britain’s women defend their title won in Limerick, Ireland, in 2023 and face competition from Austria, who finished fourth at the 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championships and are ranked fourth in the world. The talented field includes last year’s beaten finalists and 2019 champions Spain, who are ranked seventh, Germany (8th), Italy (10th) and hosts France (11th).

France wide receiver and IFAF NFL Global Flag Football Ambassador Elisa de Santis said: “It is always an honor to represent your country and to win championships, but to become the European champion as the host nation would be very special.”

In the men’s competition, reigning champion Germany faces challenges from the likes of the second-ranked nation in the world Austria, world championship bronze medalists Switzerland and three other teams ranked inside the world Top 10: France (5th), Italy (6th), and Israel (9th).

Host France is the second-most successful nation in the history of the competition. The men were crowned champions in 2005 before both the men’s and women’s teams won gold in 2007.

The event will mark a key milestone in the development of flag football in Europe, as it approaches its inclusion in the program at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. EURO FLAG 2025 will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships.

For the first time, IFAF has partnered with Playground, a sporting events specialist, to offer an immersive experience to athletes and spectators. Alongside local authorities and Parisian sports stakeholders, the event will offer a high-level tournament, an entertainment village and a reinforced dynamic around the development of flag football in France and Europe. The event is intended to be festive and accessible, with activities for the public and initiatives dedicated to the promotion of flag football among young people and local clubs.

“With the announcement of France as the host country of the EURO FLAG 2025, we are taking another key step in the development of our sport,” said IFAF President Pierre Trochet.

“As we look ahead to the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships and ultimately flag football’s first appearance at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, our continental championships play a crucial role in further accelerating the sport’s global growth and enhancing its appeal, especially to young people and new audiences.

“France will be a fantastic host, where there are already strong teams and passionate fans, who will guarantee an incredible atmosphere.”

Fabio Tortosa, Director of IFAF Competitions added: “Flag football is growing spectacularly, and this tournament will be another demonstration of that. We are committed to making it a memorable event, both for the athletes and for the fans.”

Frédéric Paquet, President of the French Federation of American Football (FFFA), said: “Hosting EURO FLAG 2025 in France is a source of immense pride for the FFFA. This event will be an exceptional showcase for this beautiful discipline, accessible to all, and a powerful lever for its development in France.”
